Deep Tissue Massage

Firm pressure to release deep-seated tension

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage uses slow, deliberate strokes and firm pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is particularly effective for chronic muscle tightness, adhesions (knots), and areas of restricted movement. Unlike relaxation massage, deep tissue work is purposeful and therapeutic — you may feel some discomfort during treatment, but the lasting relief is significant.

  • Breaks down scar tissue and muscle adhesions
  • Relieves severe muscle tension and stiffness
  • Improves blood flow to deep muscle groups
  • Effective for repetitive strain and overuse injuries

  • Accelerates post-training and post-event recovery
  • Reduces delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)
  • Identifies and addresses areas of overuse

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which treatment is right for me?

If you have a specific injury, chronic pain, or postural issue, remedial or deep tissue massage is usually the best starting point. If you're an athlete, sports massage is ideal. If you simply want to relax and de-stress, relaxation massage is perfect. You're also welcome to contact us and we'll help you choose.

Can I claim on my private health insurance?

Remedial massage is claimable with most private health funds that include extras cover. You will need a receipt — please ask at the time of your appointment. Deep tissue, sports, and relaxation massage may also be claimable depending on your fund and policy.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first session will begin with a brief health history and discussion of your goals. For remedial and deep tissue treatments, a postural assessment may be included. Please arrive 5 minutes early and wear or bring comfortable clothing.

How often should I come in?

For acute injuries or chronic pain, weekly or fortnightly sessions are often recommended initially. For maintenance and general wellbeing, monthly sessions are common. Your therapist will discuss a treatment plan with you after your first appointment.
